About the Author is just that: probably even more than you want to know!  Cindy Lovell Oliver is a former 5th grade student herself, which makes her uniquely qualified to write a book about a 5th grade girl!  In fact, during the time she was in 5th grade Cindy had her very first story published in the York Dispatch newspaper in York, PA.  (She will be quick to tell you if you ever meet her in person that she had SEVEN stories published that year, but don't let that fool you... she's really very modest!)

Tasting success as a writer early in life inspired her further.  In high school she often volunteered to author the creative writing assignments of her siblings.  Once, a poem "written" by her sister, Becky, was praised by a teacher (the REAL Mrs. Juarez from New Cumberland Jr. High School) who suggested the story be published.  Cindy did NOT want her sister getting that kind of recognition for her poem, so she wouldn't allow her sister to authorize its publication.  (Hmmm, maybe she's not so modest after all!)  The funny part about that story is that Cindy also had Mrs. Juarez as a teacher just 3 years before that, so all year long Mrs. Juarez (who did not know Cindy was ghostwriting Becky's assignments) would say, "You're such a talented writer, just like your sister, Cindy!"

From this humble beginning you are probably thinking that Cindy went on to become a great and famous writer, but this only occurred in her imagination.  You see, sadly, Cindy instead became a high school dropout!  It's true.  She quit high school during her junior year and gave up her own dream (like Rachel's) of becoming a classroom teacher.  After marrying and having two children (Angela and Adam - about whom she LOVES to brag!) Cindy eventually realized she couldn't deny her dream, and when Angie and Adam were both in high school Cindy started taking college classes, became a classroom teacher, and eventually earned a Ph.D. and became a college professor.  (It's true!  You can't make up stuff like this!)  Other writings by the author include journal articles, texts, etc.

So, there you have it - more "about the author" than you probably wanted to know, but her message is clear: It's NEVER too late to pursue your dream.  What are you waiting for?  Start the pursuit!
